How to Shop Your Best Carpet

An important factor to consider when choosing carpet is how often you will be on the carpet and its wearability.

You’ll also need to consider how you use that space. You may need a waterproof carpet in areas with a lot of activity, or a stain resistant carpet if you have children and pets in your household.

Modern carpet is made to be stylish as well as functional in your home or office setting. With carpet (or an area rug), you can walk into just about any room and immediately feel the comfort and softness underfoot.

Best Types of Carpet

How do you find the right balance between performance and style?

The most important thing you need to do is to choose the right type of carpet. There are five main types: level loop, patterned, textured, frieze, and plush.

  • Frieze carpet  stands out with its fuzzy, longer fibers. With its softer texture, frieze is perfect for casual rooms where comfort is key.
  • Loop carpet has a smoother surface and is super durable, since each single fiber is left with its looped ends.
  • Cut pile carpet boasts trimmed fibers for a thick, soft surface.
  • Textured carpet feels slightly rough to the touch. It has uneven fibers and subtle patterns that are very forgiving when it comes to hiding dirt and footprints.

Regardless of which type of carpet you choose, your flooring is made of thousands of fibers, collectively known carpet pile. Carpet pile can be made using natural or synthetic materials.

  • Nylon is a very popular synthetic pile that’s extremely sturdy and soft. However, it’s important to keep in mind that most nylon carpets must  be treated for stain-resistance abilities.
  • Polyester is similar to nylon but a lot more cost-efficient. Modern polyester carpet has a lot to offer and is no longer considered inferior: it’s actually comparable in terms of sturdiness and stain resistance.
  • Olefin is very colorful and sturdy. This resilient synthetic pile is typically found in Berber-style weaves.
  • Triexta is a newer synthetic carpet fiber that has built-in stain resistance. It doesn’t need to be pre-treated in order to do so.
  • Wool carpet is a natural flooring favorite that’s prized for its color, insulating qualities, and softness. Wool carpets are sustainably sourced and are wonderful for allergy sufferers, as they can actually filter air-borne dust particles out of your home’s air.

Where Can Carpet Be Installed?

Install new carpet in places where you spend most of your time relaxing, like in bedrooms or living rooms.

Our stain-resistant carpets can be installed in busy areas of your home like hallways and stairs. We also have durable carpet that can be installed throughout your home and can handle children and pet accidents.

You should avoid installing carpet in places like kitchens and bathrooms due to the humidity and moisture.

Can I Install My Own Carpet?

We don’t recommend you attempt to install a carpet if you’re a novice.

There are many reasons why it’s smarter to always call in the professionals. Carpet installation requires specialized tools and skills that the average homeowner doesn’t have. Got a carpet stretcher handy? Most of us don’t!

When you choose professional carpet installation, you’ll rest easy knowing the job is done right. You won’t have any concerns about whether or not your product warranty is honored in the future, and you’ll be able to focus on everyday life faster.
